Three days gives you time to see different sides of Budapest without rushing. Here is an adaptable plan based around Margaret Bridge in Buda.
Before you start: make room for Budapest
Budapest is best enjoyed in neighbourhood-sized chapters rather than a checklist. The streets of the Castle District feel different from the lively central areas of Pest, and a three-day trip gives you the freedom to slow down.
Flat Margaret sits on Margit Boulevard near Margaret Bridge. Tram 4 and 6 make it practical to move between Buda and Pest. Always check current schedules in BudapestGO before setting off.
Day one: Buda Castle, Fisherman’s Bastion and the river
Spend your first day on the Buda side. The area around Gül Baba’s Tomb makes a gentle start before you continue towards the Castle District. Fisherman’s Bastion, Matthias Church and the smaller historic streets can be combined without constant cross-city travel.
In the afternoon, head towards Buda Castle and its viewpoints; for the evening, consider the Danube near Batthyány Square. Opening hours and ticket arrangements may change, so check ahead, especially if you plan to visit interiors.
Day two: Margaret Island and central Pest
Start the morning on Margaret Island. Walk, run or simply relax by the green spaces before returning to the busier city. It is a different and enjoyable side of Budapest.
Keep the afternoon for a visit around Parliament, a city-centre walk or the Danube promenades on the Pest side. Two or three meaningful stops usually make a better afternoon than rushing between too many sights.
Day three: leave space for a favourite
Use the third day to revisit somewhere you loved, explore a museum or enjoy a long breakfast before leaving. If the weather turns, swap an outdoor stroll for an indoor option.
Think about check-out and onward travel early enough. Check-out at Flat Margaret is by 10:00; speak with your host about practical departure details in advance.
Where should you stay for a three-day Budapest trip?
A private apartment can make a multi-day break easier: breakfast in your own kitchen, space to unpack and somewhere to pause between long walks. Flat Margaret has a separate bedroom, living room, kitchen and balcony.
Explore the apartment and photos, check the location and ask about available dates.
