Two-day Budapest itinerary

Budapest in two days – an itinerary from Buda

You do not need to rush through every landmark in two days. A balanced route can comfortably include historic Buda, Margaret Island and central Pest.

This two-day plan is not a minute-by-minute schedule but a flexible route. Adjust the order to opening hours, weather and your own pace.

Day 1: historic Buda and the Danube

Morning: Gül Baba’s Tomb and the Castle District

Start with sights on the Buda side close to Flat Margaret. Gül Baba’s Tomb is within an easy walk, after which you can continue towards the Castle District. Fisherman’s Bastion and Matthias Church are often more enjoyable in the morning than during the busiest part of the day.

Afternoon: Buda Castle and panoramic views

Do not focus only on the headline attractions. Smaller streets, viewpoints and Danube panoramas are an important part of the Castle District. From Buda Castle you can return to Margit Boulevard on foot or by public transport.

Evening: Batthyány tér or the riverbank

Around sunset, Batthyány tér and the Buda riverbank are good options. The Parliament building is clearly visible from this side, and the apartment is easy to reach afterwards.

Day 2: Margaret Island and Pest

Morning: a walk on Margaret Island

Margaret Island is one of the most convenient nearby activities from Flat Margaret. It suits a morning run, a relaxed walk or a slower start to the day. Parks, the Japanese Garden, historic ruins and the Water Tower area can be explored at different paces.

Afternoon: Parliament, downtown and Chain Bridge

From the island or Margaret Bridge area, continue towards central Pest. The Parliament, a Danube promenade, downtown squares and Chain Bridge can be combined into one flexible afternoon route.

Evening: dinner in Buda or Pest

Do not over-plan the final evening. Choose a restaurant around Margit Boulevard or stay longer in Pest and return to Buda by tram 4 or 6.
